Neutering

We perform neutering operations for male and female dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and occasionally, other species.

Neutering involves removal of the testicles in male animals (castration) and removal of the ovaries and uterus in female animals (spaying). For dogs and cats, we usually recommend that the procedure be carried out when they are about six months old. This ensures that they don’t develop any unwanted ‘sex linked’ behaviour, like spraying urine or ‘interacting’ with objects that they find attractive. With females, spaying before their first "season" has major health benefits.

All neutering is carried out under general anaesthetic, which means that your pet will have to be left at the vets for a few hours. They are usually ready to come home around tea time. We usually ask that your pet comes back to us for two post-op checks – one the day after the procedure and again a week later.

We also work with the Cats Protection League for neutering vouchers and we also accept R.S.P.C.A neutering vouchers. Please phone for details:
